Pastor Gaetan

Where should I start… I find it hard to tell the story of how we met Pastor Gaetan because I’ve heard him tell it twice now and his delivery is way better then mine will ever be (and because I cry just thinking about it). Needless to say Pastor Gaetan is one of those men that your heart gravitates towards because of the way he shares his.

We’ve dubbed his smile the biggest & best in Haiti. It’s obvious that he cares deeply for his country and the once orphaned children that were dropped off at his gate. Through campaigns like Garage Sale for Orphans and HELP One Now, HELP has empowered Gaetan to continue this amazing work.

Our mission is simple:

To be a global tribe dedicated to ending extreme poverty by helping to rescue orphans, restore their hope and renew their communities.

One of our main goals as an organization is to stay as invisible as we can on the ground. The main way we do this is by working with local leaders. Side note: (if we’re being honest) I believe it’s the only way you can create long term sustainable solutions for any situation. One leader we met along the way in Haiti is named Pastor Jean Alix.

Jean Alix

Wow! HELP was blessed beyond measure to meet Jean Alix on our first trip to Haiti. He’s a bi-vocational pastor who runs a import export business as well as:

Oversees 8 churches, 4 elementary and Jr. High Schools with 1200 children, 2 orphanages with 63 children. Mentors emerging church leaders. Pastor of the Pastors and partners with 55 area churches while hosting Revivals, Pastors conferences, etc.

Jean Alix had already started a program where he helped families inside of communities rebuild homes post-earthquake. He had developed such a beautiful system where people from within the community would help each other re-build homes. So it was a pretty easy decision when HELP decided to partner with Jean Alix to create the 100 homes project.

Can’t wait to share more over the coming months via the HELP website and projects.
As always I seem to come back with more story ideas then I left with and this trip was no exception. From tap-taps to taxis the Haitian transportation system is always my favorite thing to witness. While in country I came up with a small idea that turned into a huge one before the week was over. More to come!

A hunger started to grow in my heart. Somewhere between birthing class and painting a nursery our little family was taking shape and I knew I had to pick up a camera. I had no formal training just a desire to capture moments. I thank God for blessing me with three jewels on earth and getting to take pictures of them is an honor I can’t put into words.

Daniel Johnston came out for his 50th birthday and played a few songs for fans at his mural on the drag.

Official Bio:
Daniel Johnston has spent the last 20 or so years exposing his heartrending tales of unrequited love, cosmic mishaps, and existential torment to an ever-growing international cult audience. Initiates, including a healthy number of discerning musicians and critics, have hailed him as an American original in the style of bluesman Robert Johnson and country legend Hank Williams.

His songs have been covered by a number of well-known artists including Beck, Tom Waits, Eddie Vedder, TV on the Radio, Flaming Lips, Yo La Tengo, Death Cab For Cutie, Wilco, and many more. Daniel’s artwork has been featured in the Whitney Museum and in prestigious art galleries around the world.
